Abstract

This article analyzes the role of social volunteering in the comprehensive education of National Autonomous University of Nicaragua, Managua [UNAN-Managua] students. It examines its strategic connection with the National Plan to Combat Poverty and for Human Development (2022-2026), promoted by the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity (GRUN). Volunteering complements academic training and strengthens civic, ethical, and professional competencies, positioning itself as a living pedagogy and a fundamental pillar of critical university outreach. These practices integrate university outreach, teaching, and research, promoting an active engagement with social reality. The article's approach is analytical and proactive, focusing on exploring how the  articulation of teaching, research, and outreach through volunteering can enhance the university's transformative mission. The
methodology is exploratory and based on content analysis and conceptual frameworks (e.g., comprehensive education, pedagogy, and critical outreach). It is linked to the institutional policy documents of UNAN-Managua and the guidelines of the National Plan to Combat Poverty and for Human Development (2022-2026), using theoretical references (such as Freire, Kolb and De Souza Santos) to support the pedagogical and ethical importance of volunteering in the Nicaraguan context.
