Abstract

i) Introduction. In the ecosystem of importing SMEs, initiating a digital transformation with basic infrastructure is far from simple. This article reflects on the experience of Or Design, a company based in Medellín, Colombia, specializing in the import and distribution of ergonomic chairs, which aimed to digitize its processes without compromising the stability of its logistics operations. ii) Objective. The objective was to analyze how an SME can adopt WMS-type technologies through frugal operational models, avoiding costly and overly complex solutions. iii) Methodology. The methodology combined a PRISMA-based review of recent literature with a case study supported by semi-structured interviews and direct field observation. iv) Results. Five key tensions were identified: non-integrated tools, fragile traceability, a non-systematized culture of continuous improvement, leadership sensitive to digital risk, and active learning from peer experiences. v) Conclusions. These findings suggest that digital transformation in such companies may not begin with technology itself, but rather with a revision of organizational logic and decision-making criteria. In this context, digital strategy advances not through speed, but through prudence.
