Abstract

This article analyzes how the socio-political and cultural potential of the Garifuna has been the basis of their capacity for historical transformation. Hence, the cultural bases, the conditions of reproduction and the forms of socio-political linkage of this ethnic group are constantly changing. These three articulated and constantly changing elements are a fundamental starting point for the understanding of the ethnic question. At the same time, they are a point of reference for evaluating the historical strength of this group, which has a great capacity for transformation, but without losing its identity and its historical memory.
