Abstract

The research was conducted at Bluefields Indian & Caribbean University in the city of Bluefields, Southern Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua, and it explored medical students' perceptions of the E-learning platform. As education faced the demand for more flexible and effective learning methods to overcome the limitations of face-to-face teaching; however, a lack of interactivity, technical problems, and inequalities in access created significant barriers to the student experience. The overall objective of the study was to describe students' perceptions of the usefulness of the e-learning platform. A mixed-methods approach was used, with a descriptive, prospective, and cross-sectional scope. The study involved a sample of 38 students from first to sixth year, selected using non-probability convenience sampling. Surveys and focus groups were administered. The results showed a very positive perception regarding the flexibility and accessibility of the content. Participants also emphasized the need to improve the interface to facilitate navigation and to prioritize better teacher feedback. It was evident that the E-learning platform fostered theoretical and practical learning, although its impact depended on personal and technical factors. Recommendations included strengthening interactivity, training users (teachers and students), and adapting strategies to diverse groups to guarantee a more inclusive and effective experience.
