Abstract

The authors of this article have elaborated a preliminary list of native Spanish names of forest trees of the South Atlantic Autonomous Region, with the objective of recognizing the knowledge that traditional naturalists try to transmit to us in the communities. The authors consider this a first step in the long march of traditional botanical knowledge as a humble tool to communicate between conventional scientists and rural people, to know what they are talking about plants. For the elaboration of this list, the authors of this article have relied mainly on the experience and knowledge of Don Ernesto Lemes, from the coast of the RAAS.
