Oral history of Bluefields

Abstract

Virtually all of the old people living in Bluefields today remember what they call “the good old days.”  This is a period comprising approximately the first quarter of the present century. Here is what they say about those days: There was an abundance of work, and therefore plenty of money. There were banana and mahogany ships, an abundance of large, well-stocked stores You could buy anything you wanted in the way of food, clothing and luxury goods. Everything was cheap. There was even a “one cent and two cent store”, a store in which the prices of items were one cent or two cents.  This store was located on Cabezas Avenue, going west, on the second corner to the left.
