Massive and delayed tree mortality after hurricane Juana
Keywords:
Cyclone, Environmental degradation, Environmental impact assessment, Natural hazardAbstract
This research paper attempts to demonstrate that, as in other studies carried out in subtropical rainforests affected by hurricanes and cyclones, delayed mortality after a hurricane is considerably higher than the mortality occurred during, and immediately after, the storm. Here, the same pattern is reported as it was encountered in the lowland rainforest of Nicaragua affected by Hurricane Joan, but with a much higher mortality rate than those reported in the majority of the other studies.
