Abstract

This article, based on a thesis from the master's program in Higher Education at "Jean Jacques Rousseau" University (UNIJJAR), addresses student dropout in artistic workshops and dance groups at National Autonomous University of Nicaragua, Managua (UNAN-Managua) during the first semester of 2024. The research aims to understand the causes of dropout, emphasizing the importance of arts education for human development and reducing inequality, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Using qualitative methods such as observation, interviews, and focus groups, the study identifies three categories of influential factors: sociodemographic, academic, and motivational. Factors such as distance from home to university, economic and family difficulties, academic overload, and lack of institutional support are significant. The retention proposal includes financial, emotional, and logistical support programs such as cultural scholarships, food assistance, and transportation allowances. Special attention programs are also recommended for students facing personal challenges, along with schedule flexibility and improved communication and recognition of university arts.
