Gender differences in sexual initiation in nursing students

The article aims to determine gender differences in factors related to the initiation of sexual relationships among Nursing students. It is based on the positivist, correlational paradigm. A survey with 21 items was designed, using the Kobotoolbox platform and WhatsApp to collect the information. The instrument was validated using Cronbach's Alpha (0.886), indicating high internal reliability. SPSS version 21 was used for statistical processing of percentage data, tables, and graphs. When applying the KolmogorovSmirnov test, it was found that the variables do not follow a normal distribution. Subsequently, the Chi-Square test was used to determine whether there is a significant association or independence between the variables contained in the hypotheses under study. It was concluded that the age of early sexual initiation is higher among men than women, Chi-square (0.031). Regarding the reasons for initiating sexual activity, love was predominant among women, while men responded that it was out of curiosity and the pursuit of pleasure. Most women had their first sexual experience with their boyfriend, whereas men said it was with a female friend. The majority of both sexes did not experience negative effects after beginning sexual activity, with condoms and withdrawal being the most commonly used contraceptive methods. The Chi-square results indicate that sexual behaviors according to sex are independent of the type of relationships, and that the factors that lead to sexual initiation are independent of physical attraction and religious practice.
