Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the bond strength of three adhesive systems—Single Bond 2, One Step Plus, and PQ1—on intracameral dentin previously irrigated with 3% NaOCl and a combination of 3% NaOCl + 17% EDTA, using the microtensile bond strength test. Ninety caries-free human third molars were selected and divided into three groups (N = 30) based on the endodontic irrigant used: Group I (GI): Distilled water (control), Group II (GII): 3% NaOCl, and Group III (GIII): 3% NaOCl + 17% EDTA. Each group was further divided into three subgroups according to the adhesive system applied. Z100 composite resin was placed on the dentin surface of each tooth, and the teeth were then sectioned transversely to obtain one specimen per tooth from the adhesive interface, with an approximate area of 1 mm × 1 mm. Each specimen was subjected to a microtensile bond strength test using a universal testing machine (Tinius Olsen H10K-S). Bond strength values were expressed in MPa and analyzed using two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Scheffé’s post hoc test, with statistical significance set at 0.05, using the KaleidaGraph 4.0 software. Under the conditions of this study, it was concluded that the microtensile bond strength of Single Bond 2, One Step Plus, and PQ1 adhesives was statistically similar for the same irrigant. However, when intracameral dentin was treated with endodontic irrigants such as 3% NaOCl or the combination of 3% NaOCl + 17% EDTA, the microtensile bond strength of all three adhesive systems decreased.
