Abstract

The objective of this test is to determine the behavior of foreign trade of Nicaragua for the period 2009-2013. Indicators of commercial dynamism selected are: Indices of trade liberalization, trade indices, index concentration / diversification (IHH), Grubel-Lloyd Index. The main products of export and import also chose, in addition to the eight main trading partners to do the statistics processing center for exports (CETREX), General Directorate of Customs (DGA), Central American Economic Integration Secretariat were used ( SIECA), Central Bank of Nicaragua (BCN), Ministry of Development, Industry and Trade (MIFIC). The research findings show that Nicaragua maintains its trade deficit because there has been no change in the structure of export and import. There is a concentration of exports by destination and product diversification, besides trade remains inter-industrial in nature, because it sells raw materials and buys products with greater industrial content. In short it is essential to continue to promote those public policies to achieve higher levels of production or joint sector to obtain greater added value, prioritizing productive sectors with greater export potential and expanding.
