Acute pericarditis is the most common form of pericardial disease, mostly of viral origin; acute suppurative pericarditis being less frequent observed secondary to an extra-cardiac infectious focus. Rey and colleagues reported association between a recent episode (less than one month) of upper respiratory or gastrointestinal tract infection and pericarditis (OR = 37.18, IC 95% =1.91 a 724.98, p = 0.017)
