Abstract

We report the case of a female adolescent admitted to Mario Catarino Rivas Hospital in San Pedro Sula with a history of trichophagia for 5 years. She was admitted with a history of epigastric abdominal pain of about 3 months of evolution with occasional nausea and regurgitation of food together with a weight loss of approximately 6 kilograms in the last 3 months. The patient was admitted, studies were completed, and a diagnosis of gastric trichobezoar was made. Subsequent supraumbilical laparotomy was performed to access the stomach and a gastrostomy was performed in the antrum about 6 cm in length through which the bezoar was extracted in its en tirety. The gastrotomy was subsequently closed.
