Abstract

ABSTRACT

In the scientific and institutional spheres, there is controversy about the ideal management of bronchiolitis in pediatric patients. The objective of this work is to assess the level of scientific evidence that exists on the management of bronchiolitis to determine whether or not the current recommendations are adequate. A systematic review of scientific articles was carried out consulting various databases, without date restrictions, in Spanish and English. Gray literature was included by manual search. No restrictions were made regarding the type of study. The abstracts and, where necessary, the complete articles were reviewed, finally taking into account all the articles that included contributions on the adequate management of bronchiolitis. As a result, most of the recommendations made by the societies were through clinical practice guidelines or opinion articles, concluding that there is no adequate treatment scheme to treat acute bronchiolitis, and there is erroneous management with the use of steroids. and antibiotics, while one of the most viable and cost-effective treatments is forgotten, such as the 3% hypertonic solution, which has shown a reduction in hospital stay.
