    Breastfeeding: Essential for Child Health and Development

    Volume 26, Issue 1 of Acta Pediátrica Hondureña represents the first issue of 2026 and is dedicated to the theme “Breastfeeding: Fundamental for Child Health and Development,” highlighting its crucial role in child survival, nutrition, and overall well-being. This issue pays tribute to Dr. José María Paz, a distinguished pediatrician whose career and contributions have significantly strengthened the Pediatric Residency Program at the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH), Cortés Campus.

    This issue includes an editorial on breastfeeding, three original research articles addressing neonatal mortality, gastrostomy techniques, and biomarkers associated with COVID-19 mortality. In addition, it features a literature review on the management protocol for patients with gastroschisis, several clinically relevant case reports, and an illustrative clinical image, reaffirming the journal’s commitment to the dissemination of scientific knowledge and continuing medical education in pediatrics.

    Fundamentals of Pediatrics 2023–2025 is a special volume that brings together a selected collection of research studies and clinical case reports developed between 2023 and 2025, aimed at strengthening scientific knowledge and clinical practice in the field of pediatrics. This edition includes original articles of significant academic interest addressing current and relevant topics such as genetic studies in pediatrics, growth assessment in patients with asthma, the impact of screen media use in children, analysis of noise levels in neonatal intensive care units, among other important issues related to child health.

    This volume is centered on “Human Rights in Medical Residencies,” addressed in the editorial as a reflection on resident training, well-being, and working conditions.

    The scientific content includes an original article on the clinical, endoscopic, and pathological characterization of pediatric polyps, as well as a study on neonatal sepsis. It is complemented by case reports on cystic fibrosis, fibrous dysplasia, and cutaneous leishmaniasis.
