Abstract

Introduction: There are challenges due to the increasing accumulation of construction and demolition waste (RCD), since all are deposited in waste dumps, rivers and landfills that cause a negative impact on the environment. The study aim was to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of a coarse recycled aggregate from particles of cobblestones, witnesses and debris of crushed concrete by means of an impact crusher. Methods: The study is a case-control, with experimental design. Results: With the support of a national company, two control mixtures and three mixtures were designed using RCD as coarse aggregate being replaced: 100% of the maximum nominal size, 35% of coarse aggregate and 100% of coarse aggregate. The sample had 36 concrete witnesses, of which 18 were cylindrical 6 "base by 12" high, tested for compression under the ASTM-C39 standard and 18 6 "x6" x21 "binoculars evaluated to flex according to ASTM-C78 regulations. Conclusion: Mix #3 with 100% substitution is optimal, since it meets physical and mechanical properties. This type of concrete has sustainability criteria with potential for environmental protection.
