Abstract

In this paper, the author features Monsignor Luis Chávez y Gonzalez educational and educational vision. Monsignor Chávez y González was the third metropolitan archbishop of San Salvador and served as this episcopal see for 39 years (1938-1977). The author senses, extract and infers, through an interpretative analysis, from Chávez y Gonzalez literary production, expressed mostly in the form of pastoral letters, the anthropological and educational vision. His pastoral letters have general advises and behavioral guidelines for specific contexts; and are also full of intentions and genuine elements of education, pedagogy and anthropology. Among the conclusions, the author puts forward that the human person is the center and main concern of the church. In same manner, he concludes that man is brought forward as the protagonist of a pedagogical process of perfection. But most importantly, the author infers that Monsignor Luis Chávez y González can be considered a pedagogist of his time for reasons related to his condition of pastor of the archdiocese and because of the pedagogical responsibility displayed in his letters.
