Perception of Health Personnel about the quality of care of adolescents who abuse drugs

In El Salvador, adolescents constitute the population that consumes the most drugs, which represents a great challenge for the Ministry of Health of El Salvador, entity responsible for formulating policies that ensure quality care.
In the last decade, the country has made great efforts in the area but does not yet have a mechanism to verify compliance with care protocols to assess the quality of the services provided.
The objective of the study was to know the perception of the staff working in the health unit of the metropolitan region of El Salvador, regarding the quality of care provided to adolescents who consult for drug abuse.
This quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional research was carried out in the 35 health units of the metropolitan region using a co-manager of 24 questions distributed in 3 sections and performing the binomial test to contrast the significance of the data.
According to the results, it was found that there is no suitable staff or a disciplinary team for the attention of adolescents.
However, the assigned staff confirmed to provide the service with warmth, respect, and confidentiality.
An important fact is that the established care protocols are not applied.
In general, the quality of care provided is not adequate and corrective measures have been necessary, for which recommendations are made to the relevant instances.
