Abstract

Experimental plots were established in two sites at Pacific Region of Nicaragua to assess the early establishment of Hymeneae courbaril. Survivor, diameter and height increment, damage behavior were analyzed in two different light conditions, open site (100% light) and under canopy (31% light). Plots of 15m x15m were established in the open site with a distance among plants of 3m x 3m, while in the under canopy site, plots of 25m x 25m were established with a distance among plants of 4m x 4m. The evaluation period was one year. The survivor rate was higher (80%) in under canopy site compare with open site (61.6%). Higher diameter (44.3 mm) and height (159.7 mm) increment were obtained in condition of opened place planting than under canopy condition. Defoliation (58%) was most common damage in opened place plantation; while in under canopy cover diseases was the most common condition (36.5%).
