    Code of ethics in Scientific Journal “El Higo”

The editorial team of the Science and Technology Journal “El Higo”, in order to guarantee scientific quality, is committed to high standards of ethics and practice in the dissemination of knowledge. For this reason, it is inspired by the ethical code of the COPE Publications Ethics Committee: Committee on Publications Ethics, aimed at editors, as well as reviewers and authors.

Author commitments

• Originality and fidelity of the data: the authors of articles submitted to the Scientific Journal “El Higo” ensure that the work is original, that it does not contain part of other authors or other fragments of works already published by the authors. Furthermore, they confirm the veracity of the data, that is, that the empirical data have not been altered to verify hypotheses.
• Multiple and/or respective publications: The author cannot publish articles in which the same results are repeated in more than one scientific journal. The simultaneous proposal of the same contribution to multiple scientific journals is considered an ethically incorrect and reprehensible practice.
• List of sources: The author must always provide the correct indication of the sources and contributions mentioned in the article.
• Authorship: The authors guarantee the inclusion of those people who have made a significant scientific and intellectual contribution in the conceptualization and planning of the work as well as in the interpretation of the results and in its writing. At the same time, the authors have been ranked according to their level of responsibility of involvement.
• Access and restriction: If the editorial team considers it appropriate, the authors of the articles must also make available the sources or data on which the research is based, which may be retained for a reasonable period of time after publication and possibly become accessible.
• Conflict of interest and disclosure: All authors are required to explicitly declare that there are no conflicts of interest that may have influenced the results obtained or the proposed interpretations. They must also indicate any funding from agencies and/or projects from which the research article arises.
• Errors in published articles: When an author identifies a significant error or inaccuracy in his or her article, he or she must immediately inform the editors of the journal and provide them with all the information necessary to list the pertinent corrections.
• Responsibility: Responsibility for the content of the articles published in “Revista Cientifica El Higo” is exclusive of the authors. It is they (the authors) who also undertake to carry out a review of the most current and prominent scientific literature on the topic they investigate, taking into account in a plural way the different currents of knowledge.

Reviewer Commitments

• Contribution to the editorial decision: Peer review is a procedure that helps editors take responsibility for the proposed articles and also allows improving the contribution submitted for publication. The reviewers assume the commitment to carry out a critical, honest and constructive review, both of the scientific quality and the literary quality of the writing in the field of their knowledge and skills.
• Respect for review times: The reviewer who does not feel competent in the topic to be reviewed or who cannot complete the evaluation in the scheduled time will immediately notify the editors. The reviewers undertake to evaluate the works in the shortest possible time to respect the delivery deadlines, given that in the Scientific Journal “El Higo” the limits of custody of the pending writings are limited and inflexible out of respect for the authors and their jobs.
• Confidentiality: Each assigned writing must be considered confidential. Therefore, these texts should not be discussed with others without the express consent of the editors.
• Objectivity: The review by blind peers will be carried out objectively, and their opinion will also not contain any personal judgement. They also have an obligation to inform editors if substantial parts of the work have already been published.
• Text display: Reviewers undertake to accurately indicate the bibliographical references of fundamental works possibly forgotten by the author. The reviewer should also inform the editors of any similarities or overlaps of manuscripts with other published works.
• Conflict of interest and disclosure: When an evaluator or reviewer has any opinion or interest of a personal or financial nature that could affect their objectivity in their evaluation, they must refrain from participating in the editorial process.
• Anonymity: To ensure that the review process is as objective, impartial and transparent as possible, the identity of the authors is suppressed before the works are sent for peer review. If it happens that for any reason the identity of the authors, their institutional affiliations or any other data that puts the anonymity of the document at risk has been compromised, the reviewer must immediately notify the editors.

Publisher Commitments

• Publication decision: The editorial team will guarantee the selection of the most qualified reviewers and scientific specialists to issue a critical and expert appreciation of the work, with the least possible biases. “El Higo” Scientific Magazine chooses to select between 2 and 3 reviewers for each work, thereby guaranteeing greater objectivity in the review process.
• Honesty: Articles are evaluated for publication only on the basis of the scientific merit of the contents, without discrimination of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ethnic origin, nationality, political opinion of the authors.
• Confidentiality: The editors and members of the working group agree not to disclose information regarding articles submitted for publication to persons other than authors, reviewers and editors. The editors and the editorial committee are committed to the confidentiality of the writings, their authors and reviewers, so that anonymity preserves the intellectual integrity of the entire process.
• Conflict of interest and disclosure: The editors undertake not to use content from articles submitted for publication in their research without the written consent of the author.
• Respect for time: Editors are ultimately responsible for compliance with the time limits for reviews and publication of accepted works, to ensure rapid dissemination of their results. They reliably commit to meeting the published times (maximum of 4 weeks in the estimation/dismissal from receipt of the manuscript) and maximum 12 weeks from the beginning of the blind peer review process.

Handling complaints and appeals

• Complaints, appeals, or reports submitted by readers, authors, or reviewers should be addressed to the Editor-in-Chief via the official email address of El Higo Journal (revistaelhigo@uni.edu.ni).
• The Editorial Committee undertakes to analyze, discuss, and verify the arguments presented, and to issue a timely and reasoned response in accordance with established editorial principles.
• In cases where complaints or appeals are related to possible breaches of the ethical practices defined by Revista El Higo and in the code of ethics (COPE )  in its Code of Conduct, the guidelines established in the (COPE )  Flowcharts, applicable to the nature of the case, will be followed.
