Quality system in laboratories, requirements for the competence of testing laboratories

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to describe the basic components of a quality system for the technical competence of testing laboratories, based on the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 standard. It outlines the various requirements that testing laboratories must meet to ensure that the results of analyses are traceable, accurate, and reliable. Basic goals and strategies are proposed for the laboratory to implement, based on a well-defined organization whose activities must be grounded in documented procedures, validated methods, and calibrated equipment. The essential elements of the standard are summarized in a condensed manner, aiming to present the broad spectrum of management and technical requirements in a simple way, in order to provide quality services to the community and society at large.
