The German sage Alexander von Humboldt traveled through various regions of the Americas during the first quarter of the nineteenth century on an epic journey that enabled him to build his monumental scientific work. The data he gathered provide us with valuable information about our continent, and our distinguished scholar Valle always regretted that it did not include the Central American region, even though Humboldt journeyed through different parts of Mexico, a nation from which we are not geographically very distant.
