Abstract

At the beginning of its republican life in Central America, Honduran society, under the first federal government of Honduras, experienced a vision of liberating change in contrast to the preceding society of the colonial monarchy. Among the main examples of these changes, we must mention the contributions to public education spearheaded by the first Supreme Head of State of Honduras, José Dionisio de Herrera; and the "Patriotic Gatherings" held in venues belonging to the then Honduran state, with the aim of strengthening the sense of identity among the inhabitants of the nascent Honduran society and increasing patriotic commitment.
