This paper examines the current trends and challenges faced by higher education institutions at both the national and international levels, as they strive to fulfill their mission of serving as engines of societal development and contributing to the training of competent professionals. These institutions are subject to pressures arising from various factors such as globalization, the scientific and technological revolution, and the redefinition of the role of the state, as well as the demand for a shift in the university paradigm that assumes the educational process must be centered on the student’s active learning. In this context, the professor takes on the role of facilitator and guide in the formative process
