Abstract

This work presents, for the first time, an approach to how the notions of Topic and Focus are
expressed in the Miskito language of Misumalpa origin located in Honduras and Nicaragua. It is proposed to describe the mechanisms that Miskito uses to express the topic and focus from the discourse. Also, account for the status of the suffix -ka 'possessive.3' as a participant retriever, a mechanism that is only observable in discourse. Additionally, observe the participants coding in the language.
