Cooperative work under the competency-based model is a skill that future professionals must develop. This requires the study of strategies for mediating, monitoring, and evaluating teamwork in university contexts. This paper addresses the didactic management of teamwork from the competency-based model in Hispanic Language and Literature students at UNAN-Managua. In this regard, a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design was chosen to understand the experience of first-year Hispanic Language and Literature students and teachers. The information was collected through a focus group in which ten students participated, and an online questionnaire completed by six teachers. The results indicated that both participating groups are aware of the difficulties faced by work teams, the strategies that teachers implement to monitor teamwork, the processes of group performance evaluation, and the importance of feedback for continuous improvement.
