Diagnosis of skills in writing expository texts in students of language and literature

Abstract

Currently, there is a strong need to improve the writing skills of university students; therefore, a diagnostic study was carried out with the objective of determining the skills of students of Spanish Language and Literature in the writing of expository texts, its importance lies in providing the necessary guidelines for the preparation of appropriate teaching strategies for students. This process was carried out through the qualitative research method, which allowed to expose the findings clearly and precisely from the application of instruments such as observation and a checklist made up with the appropriate criteria to measure writing skills such as analyzing, arguing or synthesizing written information and also the processes of planning, contextualization and revision. In addition, its contributions in terms of the findings of this research work mainly benefit teachers of the specialty or other specialties that need to reinforce these areas, the students under study and in general the university community to determine which are the necessary elements to reinforce in the new entrants to the university. In conclusion, the development of a diagnosis improves the quality of education.
