The research focused on the analysis of the sustainability of the families that live in the environments of the freshwater wetlands of western El Salvador, returning to the economic and social dimension and the effects that these have on the bodies of water of Lake Coatepeque and Güija, and the lagoons of Metapán, Cuzcachapa, El Espino, Verde and Las Ninfas, located in the departments of Santa Ana and Ahuachapán. To do this, the areas were visited, where contact was made with the inhabitants, as well as tours to determine the state of the wetlands, where it was possible to verify that the productive activities that stand out the most are agricultural, tourist and fish farming., and that the families that live in the communities surrounding them have, in part, covered the basic needs of housing, food, education, health, road access, among others, although not in a generalized way, which must be improved to raise your standard of living. It is worth mentioning that with the passage of time the wetlands deteriorate, because of human interference, which threatens the sustainability of their ecosystem.
