Colorectal cancer profile of patients treated from 2014-2020 at the Liga Contra el Cancer Hospital

Abstract

Introduction: Colorectal cancer in 2020 presented a total of 19,292,789 cases worldwide and in Honduras, represented the fifth place an approximate of 609 cases (5.7%) of a total of 10,628 cases with a mortality of 3.5% for colon cancer and 1.6% for rectal cancer. Methodology: We investigated patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer under treatment at the Hospital Liga Contra el Cáncer during the period from 2014 to 2020, performing an observational, descriptive and retrospective study by means of clinical records. Results: The mean age was 59 years, in an age range of 61-70 years, it affected more men, the stage with more frequency, stage III, histological type was adenocarcinoma, the most indicated treatment is medical surgical and most used right hemicolectomy and chemo-radiation. Conclusion: The profile of patients with colorectal cancer, in terms of the relationship between the literature and the results found, similarities were found, the most frequent gender in the male gender, between the ages of 60 to 70 years, which agreed with this study, besides being the northwestern region in 86% of the study population, in family inheritance factors 15% of our study population had a history of colorectal cancer in first degree family and also in toxic habits there was no relationship between the literature and this study.
