It is based on the principles of reducing, reusing, repairing, and recycling to maintain the value of products and materials for as long as possible. It is presented as an alternative to the traditional linear economic model, which relies on the extraction, production, consumption, and disposal of resources, a process that is unsustainable because it generates a large amount of waste and environmental pollution. The main purpose of this article is to analyze the concept of the circular economy, its principles, benefits, and the extent to which it is being implemented to become part of the management practices of industrial, commercial, and service companies in the eastern zone of El Salvador. To this end, interviews were conducted with managers from different business sectors using a qualitative approach, in order to understand the scope and limitations of its implementation, expectations regarding the advantages of its adoption, as well as to identify their current experiences with this model. Finally, the phases for implementing a “circular economy model” adaptable to interested companies are presented and proposed.
