Abstract

Considering that in the last decade female enrollment has surpassed that of men in undergraduate careers in Chilean universities, the article explains through the presentation of the results of an investigation carried out during 2018, the reasons why this tendency has not been replicated in the Physical Education career of the UCM, for which the masculinizing traits contained in the study plan and pedagogical practices of the academics responsible for training from the perspective of their students were analyzed. From the methodological point of view, it was a qualitative - descriptive investigation, whose design privileged the case study, being the UCM and more specifically the aforementioned career the context of the study. For the collection of information, basically, the analysis of official documents and the focus group was used. The documentary corpus was made up of the study plan and a selection of 12 students who are in their last year in the process of professional practice. Among the main findings is the absence of a study plan of elements that suggest a differentiated formation between men and women. The differences arise, rather, as a consequence of the university culture, characteristic of the Department of Physical Education and the institution, which legitimizes certain sexist pedagogical practices. Another explanation of the masculinizing bias points to the very conception of sports that privileges the participation of men and promotes the formation of masculine enclaves.
