Abstract

Do you consider that the levels of violence in which the country finds itself can affect the democratization environment initiated after the signing of the Peace Agreements?
No, democracy can be affected only if the government reacts to the problems of violence and crime with authoritarian responses and restricts constitutional freedoms.
In other words, when there are arbitrary actions by the State agencies responsible for controlling these manifestations of violence and delinquency. In situations of this kind, spaces and democratic freedoms are almost always affected.
By the way, in relation to this problem, it is important to make a conceptual distinction between violence and crime. Moreover, it is necessary to specify the consequences that various forms of violence can generate.
