Education and work are two constructs that are related to each other since they allow good economic development of both the individual and society. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the role of the university in the current context and to highlight its tendency in training for the labor market to the detriment of training for human development. Elements such as the role of the university in preparing professionals for the labor market and the challenges of higher education in professional training are discussed. It is concluded that the vision of education must emerge from the dichotomy of a work or humanistic education, where there should not be a conflict between the two.
