The family context associated with self-concept and the academic performance of young people in middle school in San Salvador

Abstract

This study had as general objective to determine if the family context and the self-concept are related to academic performance in teenagers, for this purpose the following instruments were applied: historical factors of youth violence and the self-concept questionnaire scale. The sample was of 1.112 young from the metropolitan area of San Salvador, a retrospective design and transactional, with the survey technique was used. The mean total age was 16.6 years; the sample of women was of 563 (50, 60 %) and that of 548 men (49, 30 %). The results found that there is a significant correlation between the family context, self-concept and the academic performance of youth in secondary education.
