Descriptive study on the problem of indigenous refajo in the Izalcos region of El Salvador

The following paper addresses the extinction of the indigenous refajo in the Izalco region of El Salvador; and the cultural, social and historical consequences that this phenomenon represents. Is an analysis about the cause and effect of the disuse and discontinuity of the traditional corte, researching previous bibliographical references, and executing field research through interviews and photographs that recount indigenous refajo users personal experiences and knowledge.
Analyzing the elements (historical, social, cultural and economic) that discontinued refajos and its use amongst women, as well as internal changes that the community suffered from these factors, it fi nalizes giving a concluding refl ection regarding the cultural consequences that this problem implies in the Salvadoran society.
