Previous studies conducted a characterization of different types of sensors, based on the transduction principle and the measured quantity. Continuing this topic, the focus was placed specifically on piezoresistive and piezoelectric sensors, which share the same starting point—the piezoelectric effect—but offer different construction possibilities and application potential. Through a rigorous bibliographic review of scientific sources, the most common and notable applications of piezo sensors are presented, along with their operation under various conditions and their response to different applied forces, as well as the reasons for their widespread use due to their high capacity for delivering reliable measurements. Finally, an interesting proposal for further research is presented, focusing on the applicability and use of piezoelectric sensors in energy generation, a field that has attracted significant attention from the scientific community and warrants further exploration in future studies.
