Abstract

This academic essay presents a historical-continental approach to climate change, a global threat of increasing significance. It includes data, statistics, and specific case studies that illustrate the tangible reality of climate change through past events and projections of future scenarios if preventive action is not taken. The essay also proposes Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management (CDRM) as a set of tools for planning and action in favor of society. The topic is addressed from two perspectives: the historical approach analyzes how climate change has influenced social norms over time, adapting to different historical contexts; the continental approach outlines the general impact of climate change across continents and explores the pursuit of sustainable solutions through international agreements and realistic social practices. Finally, the case of Honduras is highlighted with alarming data and projections from international organizations, emphasizing the urgent need to reverse these trends through the implementation of effective CDRM strategies.
