Background: Toxotrypana curvicauda G. is one of the main pests of Carica papaya L., laying its eggs in the fruit, causing premature fruit drop and losses. C. papaya is a crop in high demand and of economic importance. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of homemade traps in the management and behavior of T. curvicauda. Methodology: A three-factor experiment was conducted in a completely randomized block design, in which 12 treatments with three factors (odor, color, and shape) and a control (McPhail trap) were established in three blocks with eight sampling events. Results: The highest abundance values were found in the orange cylindrical traps with odor, averaging 44.87 insects; the yellow cylindrical traps with odor showed an average richness of 4.75; the highest capture rate of T. curvicauda was in the rectangular yellow traps without odor (0.42). The scented green cylindrical traps achieved an average species diversity of 0.77; the highest frequency of T. curvicauda was found in the scentless yellow rectangular traps, with an average of 41.67, and the plants containing the scented orange cylindrical traps showed the most damage compared to the rest, at 10.9%. Conclusion: The scentless yellow rectangular homemade traps had a positive effect on attracting both T. curvicauda and a variety of insects that, in turn, cause damage to papaya crops.
