Abstract

The objective of this study was to identify risk factors associated with condylomatosis in patients treated at the VICITS service of the Alonso Suazo Polyclinic in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, during the first quarter of 2023. A quantitative investigation was conducted using observational, retrospective, and analytical case-control design. The sample consisted of 80 patients, evenly divided into 40 cases (diagnosed with condylomatosis) and 40 controls (without diagnosis), selected through non-probabilistic convenience sampling. The variables analyzed included age at sexual initiation, number of sexual partners, history of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), use of contraceptive methods, and time of lesion onset. The findings showed that 82.5% of the cases began sexual activity between the ages of 12 and 15, and 95% reported having had more than five sexual partners. Additionally, a similar percentage did not use any contraceptive method, and a significant proportion had a history of STIs. These results reveal a strong association between high-risk sexual behaviors and the occurrence of condylomas. The findings underscore the urgent need to strengthen sexual health education programs and to implement effective prevention and control strategies for STIs, particularly among vulnerable populations at greater risk of exposure and infection.
