Abstract

This article examines the relevance of agribusiness as an engine of socioeconomic development. For this reason, the review is based on two determining factors: the role agribusiness plays in the economic and social development of territories and the problems it faces. It highlights the importance of agriculture in food production, job creation, and income generation for families engaged in these activities, which are part of the value chain at the local, national, and international levels. The methodology consisted of a comprehensive review of 21 recent literature documents (2010-2024) on agribusiness, using sources such as the FAO and the World Bank, under the established criteria. The most relevant findings reflect that, despite the potential of agribusiness in developing countries, they face limitations such as the scarcity of funds available to promote their growth, the lack of access to knowledge on training issues, and access to technology. In conclusion, it is emphasized that agribusiness generates many benefits, playing a fundamental role in social and economic development. However, it is necessary to address current issues in the search for solutions, including the adoption of inclusive and sustainable policies that integrate actors in the value chain, promoting innovation and collaboration between governments, universities, and communities. In addition, it is emphasized that agricultural development and its contributions to food security are key to social and economic well-being, especially in rural areas.
