Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises are industrial, commercial or any other type of organization characterized by limited human and financial capital. The objective of the article was to analyze the importance of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as the main problems they present in the context of Latin America and Mexico. The research design is exploratory and descriptive. A literature review was carried out in the main search engines of scientific publications such as scopus, google academic, elsevier and web of science. As a result of the analysis of the information, it was identified that micro, small and medium-sized enterprises are the main generators of employment in both Latin American and Mexican economies. In addition, they are responsible for providing basic income to families for their subsistence; however, these types of companies do not remain in the market for a long period of time and those that do survive do not find growth processes. It is concluded that micro, small and medium-sized enterprises must have well-defined strategic development plans to promote their growth and consolidate them in the market.
