Salvadoran cinema faces a complex panorama, characterized by the resilience of its creators and the structural limitations in the sector. National production has been dominated by the documentary genre, influenced by the memory of the armed conflict, while fiction has had a more sporadic development. Despite individual efforts and the support of programs such as Ibermedia, the country lacks a regulatory framework to regulate and promote filmmaking, in addition to facing difficulties in financing and distribution. An overview of the Salvadoran film value chain reveals weaknesses at all stages: lack of economic incentives, absence of specialized academic training, lack of a national film library and scarce presence of local cinema on the screens. Although the creative resilience of filmmakers has kept production alive, the sector continues to depend on individual effort, without a clear financing structure or long-term policies. In this context, the future of Salvadoran cinema remains uncertain, when its establishment as an industry requires a structured ecosystem that guarantees its sustainable development.
